Sonu Nigam
Sonu Nigam is a famous singer, composer and music director of India who is also called “Elvis Presley of India”. He sings mainly in Hindi and Kannada languages films but also sings in many other languages such as English, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Nepali, Maithili, Odia, Marathi etc. According to him, his inspiration is legendary singer Mohammad Rafi. His singing style is also consider as Mohammad Rafi, so he is often regarded as “Modern Rafi” and was earlier called “Rafi clone”.
Sonu Nigam started his study in J.D.Tyler School and graduated from the University of Delhi.
Sonu Nigam's two sisters are Teesha Nigam and Meenal Nigam. His wife’s name is Madhurima Nigam who belongs to a Bengali family. They married on 15th February, 2002. Their son’s name is Neevaan Nigam, born 25th July, 2007.
Sonu Nigam has three dogs, namely Goggles, Shifu and Zen.

He released many albums in different languages and also Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic devotional songs albums.
At the age of 3, Sonu Nigam started to sing on the stage on Mohammad Rafi’s song “Kya Hua Tera Wada”and started to accompany his father, Agam Nigam on the wedding ceremony and parties. He started his training on classical music under the legendary classical singer Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
Sonu Nigam has performerd in many countries such as North America, Africa, Australia, Europe, Asia and many more.
In 2007, Sonu Nigam performed a solo concert in Canada and Germany, title was “Simply Sonu”. He is the first who do so. In 2008, he also travelled India for promoting his Punjabi single “Punjabi Please”.
Sonu Nigam’s first song was for the film Janam (1990) but the song never released. Then he started to make radio commercial.
“O Aaasman Wale” sang by Sonu Nigam for the film “Aaja Meri Jaan” (1992) which was his first released song.
He sang the title track “Kal Ho Na Ho” for the film Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin” for the film Agneepath which are also his very popular songs.
He worked as a music director for the film “Singh Saab the Great”.
In 1992, Sonu Nigam released his album “Rafi Ki Yaadein”, which was his first released album. In 2007, he also released a six-disc collection of 100 songs of Mohammad Rafi; title was “Kal Aaj Aur Kaal”.
In 1999, Sonu Nigam’s album “Deewana” was released by T-Series, which is one of the best-selling albums still today.
Sonu Nigam released a tribute album “The Best of Our Hearts”, after the death of Michael Jackson. In this album, he tribute a song to Michael Jackson.
Sonu Nigam sang Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye” at the inauguration of Harvard University’s 28 th president, Dew Gilpin Faust, in 2007.
He was twice ranked No. 1 artist on the US Billboard Unwanted Chart in September and October 2013.
Sonu Nigam is the favourite singer of Shankar Mahadevan. Himesh Reshammiya, Ankit Tiwari, Armaan Malik, Vishal-Shekhar also considerhim the best singer in India. According to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Sonu Nigam is the best comparable to Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi.
Acting and Dubbing
Sonu Nigam first acted at the age of 10, in the film Betaab (1983). He acted as a lead actor in several movies such as Jaani Dushman, Ek Anokhi Kahani, Kash Aap Hamare Hote and Love in Nepal. He also gave his voice in the Hollywood animated films namely “Aladdin” and “Rio”.

Spiriytual Guru Radhe Maa was criticized for the clothes she wore and there were some lawsuits in this regard. Sonu Nigam supported her and said “Just my 2 pence. Kaali Maa is depicted in lesser clothes than Radhe Maa. Interesting that this country wants to sue a woman for her clothes”. This coment hurt religious sentiments of the people and FIRs were filed againsted him.
In the movie “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” (2016), Anushka Sharma utters a dialogue “Mohammad Rafi? woh gaate kam rote zyada the na? which Made Mohammad Rafi’s fans angry. Sonu Nigam lashed out at filmmaker Karan Johar
On 18th June, Sonu Nigam released a video on instagram, after the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In this video, he said that two music companies in India controlled the entire music industry. The newcomers artists faced discrimination that he had also faced in past.
On 22 June, Sonu Nigam warned Bhushan Kumar for sabotaging his image in the industry that he had messed with the wrong person.
Sonu Nigam is a versatile singer. He is not only a singer but also worked as an actor, host, anchor, judge of many reality music shows. He performed an act called “The Roadside Ustaad” on Juhu streets as disguised himself as a beggar. Sonu Nigam has launched his own music label named “I believe music” and the first track released under the label was “Rudhrashtakam”.
