    Sonu Nigam is a famous singer, composer and music director of India who is also called “Elvis Presley of India”. He sings mainly in Hindi and Kannada languages films but also sings in many other languages such as English, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Nepali, Maithili, Odia, Marathi etc. According to him, his inspiration is legendary singer Mohammad Rafi. His singing style is also consider as Mohammad Rafi, so he is often regarded as “Modern Rafi” and was earlier called “Rafi clone”.

    Sonu Nigam was born in Faridabad, Haryana on 30th July, 1973.His father Agam Kumar Nigam was a resident of Agra and his mother Shobha Nigam was a resident of Garhwal. In 1999, they moved to Mumbai from Faridabad.

    Sonu Nigam started his study in J.D.Tyler School and graduated from the University of Delhi.

    Sonu Nigam's two sisters are Teesha Nigam and Meenal Nigam. His wife’s name is Madhurima Nigam who belongs to a Bengali family. They married on 15th February, 2002. Their son’s name is Neevaan Nigam, born 25th July, 2007.

    At the age of 3, Sonu Nigam started to sing on the stage on Mohammad Rafi’s song “Kya Hua Tera Wada”and started to accompany his father, Agam Nigam on the wedding ceremony and parties. He started his training on classical music under the legendary classical singer Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
    Sonu Nigam has performerd in many countries such as North America, Africa, Australia, Europe, Asia and many more.
    In 2007, Sonu Nigam performed a solo concert in Canada and Germany, title was “Simply Sonu”. He is the first who do so. In 2008, he also travelled India for promoting his Punjabi single “Punjabi Please”.
    Sonu Nigam’s first song was for the film Janam (1990) but the song never released. Then he started to make radio commercial.
    “O Aaasman Wale” sang by Sonu Nigam for the film “Aaja Meri Jaan” (1992) which was his first released song.

    He sang the title track “Kal Ho Na Ho” for the film Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin” for the film Agneepath which are also his very popular songs.
    He worked as a music director for the film “Singh Saab the Great”.  
    In 1992, Sonu Nigam released his album “Rafi Ki Yaadein”, which was his first released album. In 2007, he also released a six-disc collection of 100 songs of Mohammad Rafi; title was “Kal Aaj Aur Kaal”.
    In 1999, Sonu Nigam’s album “Deewana” was released by T-Series, which is one of the best-selling albums still today.
    Sonu Nigam released a tribute album “The Best of Our Hearts”, after the death of Michael Jackson. In this album, he tribute a song to Michael Jackson.  
    Sonu Nigam sang Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye” at the inauguration of Harvard University’s 28 th president, Dew Gilpin Faust, in 2007.
    He was twice ranked No. 1 artist on the US Billboard Unwanted Chart in September and October 2013.
    Sonu Nigam is the favourite singer of Shankar Mahadevan. Himesh Reshammiya, Ankit Tiwari, Armaan Malik, Vishal-Shekhar also considerhim the best singer in India. According to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Sonu Nigam is the best comparable to Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi.

    Acting and Dubbing

    Sonu Nigam first acted at the age of 10, in the film Betaab (1983). He acted as a lead actor in several movies such as Jaani Dushman, Ek Anokhi Kahani, Kash Aap Hamare Hote and Love in Nepal. He also gave his voice in the Hollywood animated films namely “Aladdin” and “Rio”.

    Controversy

    He has been involved in various controversies at different times. In 2017, he tweeted that Azaan, played by loudspeaker, disturbed his sleep. The Muslim community was angry on him and Syed Sha Atef Ali Quaderi, vice-president of West Bengal United Minority Council announced to give 10 lakhs  as a reward who shaved Sonu Nigam’s head. Sonu Nigam saved responded by shaving  his head to claim the prize money.

    Spiriytual Guru Radhe Maa was criticized for the clothes she wore and there were some lawsuits in this regard. Sonu Nigam supported her and said “Just my 2 pence. Kaali Maa is depicted in lesser clothes than Radhe Maa. Interesting that this country wants to sue a woman for her clothes”. This coment hurt religious sentiments of the people and FIRs were filed againsted him.

    In the movie “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” (2016), Anushka Sharma utters a dialogue “Mohammad Rafi? woh gaate kam rote zyada the na? which Made  Mohammad Rafi’s fans angry. Sonu Nigam lashed out at filmmaker Karan Johar

    On 18th June, Sonu Nigam released a video on instagram, after the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In this video, he said that two music companies in India controlled the entire music industry. The newcomers artists faced discrimination that he had also faced in past.

    On 22 June, Sonu Nigam warned Bhushan Kumar for sabotaging his image in the industry that he had messed with the wrong person.


    Sonu Nigam is a versatile singer. He is not only a singer but also worked as an actor, host, anchor, judge of many reality music shows. He performed an act called “The Roadside Ustaad” on Juhu streets as disguised himself as a beggar. Sonu Nigam has launched his own music label named “I believe music” and the first track released under the label was “Rudhrashtakam”.

    Arijit Singh was born on 25 April, 1987 in Jiagang town, Murshidabad district of West Bengal. His father, Kakkar Singh,is a Sikh and mother is Bengali. Arijit Singh has a sister, named Amrita Singh. He started his study in Raja Bijay Singh High School in Murshidabad. He did his graduation from Sripat Singh College, Jiagang Murshidabad.

    Arijit Singh’s musical career was started with a reality show “Fame Gurukul” in the year 2005. His mentor Rajendra Prasad Hazari adviced him to participate this show. He was eliminated on 6th place. During this show famous filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali gave him a break in his upcoming film “Saawariyan” and the song was “Yun Shabnami” but this song was not released as the film script was changed and the song was not necessary for this film. After the “Fame Gurukul” ,Kumar Turani, who was the head of ‘Tips’, also signed him for an album but unfortunately the album was also never released.

     In 2006, Arijit Singh moved to Mumbai. In 2010, he participated another reality show “10 Ke 10 Le Gaya Dil” and won the competition. He got 19 lakh rupees as prize money. He spent all the money to build his own music recording studio. He started to compose music for TV channels, commercials, radio stations, news channels.     In 2013, Arijit Singh was arrested for misbehaving with a journalist. When the journalist asked him about his divorce case, Arijit Singh requested him to stop shooting but the cameraman did not stop so Arijit Singh got angry and attacked on the cameraman. But later Behrampur CJM court granted him bail.

    In 2014, at ‘Star Guild Award Function’, Arijit Singh comented on Salman Khan’s performance on the song ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.Salman Khan was felt insulted and got angry with Arijit Singh.

     Sanam Puri’s Personal Life

    Sanam Puri was born in New Delhi on 30th June, 1992. He started his studies in Indian School, Muscat (Oman) and then, went to Kirori Mal College in Delhi for graduation but after six months, he gave up his studies.

     From his childhood, he liked music and when he was only six tears old, started his musical training. He liked to play guitar and piano also. From his childhood, he participated in many music competitions and won many awards. His younger brother, Samar Puri, is also the lead guitarist in “Sanam Band”

    Sanam Puri is in a relationship with Asmi Shrestha who became the Miss Nepal in 2016. Sanam Puri’s nick name is Salmon, kept by Keshav, one of the band members of “Sanam Band”

    Now in 2020, he is 28 years old, weight 75 kg, and height 5’11”, fair complexion, dark brown eyes and black hair. His star sign is Cancer. He practises Hinduism.

    Sanam Puri’s Career and Formation of “Sanam Band”   

    In the Indian School of Muscat, Venky S or Venkat Subramaniyam and Sanam Puri’s younger brother Samar were batchmates and they both played guitar and wanted to start a band. Sanam was joined with them as a singer.

    After completing the school studies, they came back India. Sanam and Samar went to Delhi. Venky went to Bangalore where he met Keshav who was a drummer in band “Nerverek”

    In 2009, Sanam Puri and Samar came to Mumbai to start career as musician and singer. In May 2010, Times Music launched a pop band talent hunt show called “Supastars” to search a talented band in India.

    In the first round, Samar, Sanam and Keshav took entry as the “SQS Project” and in the last round, Venky joined with them. They won the title “Times Music Supastar” by beating over 1600 bands.

    The band released their first album “Supastar” and then released their music videos “Hawa Hawa” and “Behka”.

    In 2012, they met Ben Thomas, who introduced them to Vishal Shekhar, who gave first break to Sanam Puri as a playback singer with the song “Dhat Teri Ki” in the movie “Gori Tere Pyar Mein” and “Ishq Bulaava” from the movie “Hasee Toh Phasee”. That year, their band composed their first original composition “Main Hoon” for “The Amazing Spider Man 2”.

    They changed the name of their band from “SQS” to “Sanam” which is literally means “Love”.

    In 2010, Sanam Puri and his band won the title “Times Music Supastar” as “SQS Project”.

    In 2017, the band “Sanam” won the best creator of musical content of the “Amravat Social Media Summit & Awards” which was given by A P Minister of Tourism, Bhuma Akhila Priya and Kesineni Srinivas.

    In 2019, Sanam Puri wins “Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Award”. In the same year, he won the “RADIOCITY FREEDOM AWARD” for the best pop singer for his song “Sanam Original” “Itni Door”.
