Republic Day
is considered as one of the national holidays in the country which is
celebrated on 26 January every year. On 26 January 1950, the Constitution of India
came into force. The Constitution of India gives the power to the Indians to
choose their government and also declares that India is a sovereign, socialist,
secular, democratic republic and assures justice, equality and freedom. Every year India celebrate the Republic Day with great pride and enthusiasm.

1. Republic Day is one
of the three national festivals of India, the other festivals are Independence
Day and Gandhi Jayanti.

implement the constitution because on that day in 1929, the Indian National
Congress made a famous declaration or "Purna Swaraj".

rule on 15 August 1947, India had no permanent constitution.
3. The Drafting Committee presented the
first draft of the Constitution to the Parliament on 4 November 1947.

by Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar,
5. It took 2 years, 11 months and 17
days for 308 members of the Constituent Assembly to complete the drafting of
the constitution for independent India.
6. Prem Behari Narain Raizada (Saxena),
a noted calligraphist, wrote 395 articles, 8 schedules, and a preamble in both
English and Hindi of Constitution of India, which is the longest handwritten
constitution of any country.
7. On 24 January 1950, the first
President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first person to sign the
Constitution of India.

9. On the evening of 29 January, the
third day after the Republic Day, The Beating Retreat ceremony is held at the end of Republic
Day.
