Essay on Water-800 words
Introduction
Water is a precious gift of God. Water is one of the
most important resources after air on earth. Without water our earth becomes lifeless. All
living being need water to live. We can survive a week without food but not
more than three days without water so water is also called life-giving liquid.
Pure water is colorless, odorless, tasteless
substance which is made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms.
Water sources
Though 70% of our earth covers with water but only
2.5% of fresh water. 97% of earth’s water is salty which isn’t drinkable, about
2% of water is locked in ice-caps and glaciers and remaining 1% is ground
water.
There are 2 major types of water-
·
Surface water- Streams, rivers,
lakes, reservoirs and wetlands. We get 78% of fresh water from surface water.
·
Ground water- Ground water is the
water which is found beneath the earth’s surface. We use 22% of ground water.
We also use stormwater which
falls from the sky such as rain, hail or snow etc. and wastewater, which has
been polluted by human activities, mainly used for agricultural purposes.
We get water by digging wells,
pumping water, collecting rainwater or using desalination to get fresh water
from oceans. But today many parts of the world do not access the safe, clean
drinking water.
Water Cycle
The water cycle or hydrologic cycle is the continuous movement of water of the earth. Evaporation,
Condensation, Precipitation and Collection are the steps of water cycle.
Evaporation- During
the day, the water of the river, lake oceans etc. heat up due to the sun’s heat
and some of the water evaporates and ice to sublime into the air, called water
vapour. The plants and trees also water through the stomata found on the
leaves. This process is called transpiration.
Condensation-
The water vapour then rises up high into the sky and cools down and again turns
back into liquid. These tiny droplets of water form clouds. This process is
called Condensation.
Precipitation-
When more water condensed, the droplets of water in the clouds become too big
and heavy, that the air do not hold them and the water droplets fall back again
on the ground as rain, hail or snowfall.
Collection-
The fallen precipitation such as rain, snow or hail collected again in the water
bodies and the cycle starts again.
Importance of
Water
Water is one of the most important and essential
resources for all living beings on earth. Water is also called the life-giving liquid. 75% of human
body is made up of water and 60% of an adult human body weight makes up by
water. Every single cell of human body needs water to be active and function
properly. Water helps to improve blood circulation and fight off illness and
boost energy. Water helps to reduce weight and improve our skin complexion.
Water helps to regulate our body temperature and also improve our brain
function and protects our tissue, spinal cord and joint.
The water is commonly used for drinking,
bathing, washing, cleaning, watering plants, household needs, agricultural
activities, industries, hydroelectricity etc. Around 70% of water is used for
agricultural activities.
Plants also need water to make
their food by photosynthesis. Water is very necessary for the survival of all living animals.
Some aquatic animals such as
fish, crabs etc. are main sources of food for many people around the world
Waterways are an important
means of trade and travels.
Water, ice and snow are the canters of many other sports, such as: boating, sailing, surfing, fishing, diving, boating and skiing.
Conservation of Water
Currently 17% of the world’s population do not access
clean drinking water, according to WHO.
So we have to
try to save water. To save water
we must reducing wastage of water, prevent damaging water quality and improve
water management.
Conservation of water includes avoiding waterpollution. Due to global warming and growth of population, the amount of fresh
water is decreasing which can bring more droughts, so we must save water.
Turn off the tap when brushing teeth, saving or
soaping and also fix leaky taps and water pipes. We can save 6 litre of water a
minute by turning off the tap. We can collect the rain water and use it to
cleaning, washing clothes, watering plants etc. Using appliances which are most
water and energy efficient. Take the right amount of water in the glass. If
there is excess of water, pour the water into a container and put it in the
garden or on the terrace for thirsty birds and insects.
Conclusion
“Water, water, every where, nor only drop to drink” –
Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Yes, it's true, 97% of water on the earth is
undrinkable because it is saline or salt water. Clean and fresh water is the
most precious resources so use the water wisely and be responsible of it.
Water essay-200
Water is a vital and essential substance on the earth.
About 70% of the earth is covered with water but 97.5% of this water is
saltwater, remaining 2.5% of fresh water by of it 99% is underground water or
ice and only 1% of fresh water found in lake, rivers, ponds, streams etc.
We get water from rivers, lakes, canals, ponds,
streams etc. We get underground water by digging wells, pumping or tube wells
Water is needed for drinking, bathing, cleaning, washing
etc. 70% of water is used for agriculture. Plants and trees use the water to
make their food by photosynthesis. All animals need water to survive. 70% of
human body is made up of water. Water helps to regulate our body temperature;
improve brain function; protects our tissue, spinal cord; boosts our energy and
reduces our weight.
The earth has limited water supply which goes and
comes through the process of water cycle.
Without water there will be no life on the earth and
our earth will become a lifeless planet. So we must save the water to save our
earth. By adopting small practices to reduce
water use, we can collectively make a significant impact on our environment and
our communities in the long term. Committing to just a bit of effort can save
our earth for our next generation.
